Silverfish are bluish-silver insects about half inch in length with a hard exoskeleton. They have two long antennas and 3 prominent tails. They move like fish wiggling along the ground. They grow from egg to adult with very little visible change in appearance.
Silverfish are found in dark, damp areas such as basements, attics, kitchens and bathrooms. Silverfish feed on carbohydrates particularly sugars and starches, cellulose, shampoos, glue in books, linen, silk, and dead insects. There are different species of silverfish. Some species of silverfish can lay a few eggs a day whereas another will lay clusters of 2 to 20 eggs a day.
Silverfish are nocturnal and move very quickly. Most people will see silverfish when they flip on a bathroom light late at night. By that point the houses is usually infested. Luckily a pest professional can treat silverfish easily and have your house back to normal relatively quickly.
